Sister Carol Performance was right at home

The night was growing late and the crowd started off sparse for a Thursday Evening performance. All the way from Jamaica, Sister Carol didn't dissapoint, in fact if you ask anyone who stayed until the end of the show (almost 2 AM) I'm sure they will tell you something special happened Thursday Night, the 20th of March. The Grass Valley air was crisp and cool, but inside Body Balance studios Sister Carol brought a little Jamaican weather with her! The room was hot, the Bamboo soft beneath our feet as we danced until the wee hours of Friday Morning. We are truly blessed to have had Sister Carol perform in our intimate studio in an alcohol and drug free location where all the children could enjoy the wonderful cultural music and morals that the We a Dem band and her had to sing about. We look forward to having mroe wonderful performers like Sister Carol come and entertain and inspire us in our studio. Bless

Body Balance Grand Opening - Despite numerous forcasts of treacherous weather on Saturday Body Balance decided the show must go on! After all, rescheduling the Body Balance Grand Opening at 151 Mill St. in Downtown Grass Valley featuring the Shaolin Monks just wasn’t an option. As luck would have it, Mother Nature cooperated and the weather cleared just enough in the late afternoon to allow Mill Street to usher in its first traditional wellness center, focused on life long health practices of Yoga, Tai Chi, and Kung Fu. Hundreds turned out for the opening, creating a standing only room around the lit stage area as our county awaited the arrival of the Monks. Opening performances by Master Hancock, the founder of Body Balance in Maryland, Disciples of Grand Master Henry Look, Sifu Wheeler’s awe inspiring double straight sword, as well as our own Body Balance demonstration team set the stage for a truly magnificent show. The crowd ooed and awed as the performers demonstrated gravity defying acts of physical stamina. Chung Jun performed Shepard’s whip, Broadsword, and Big Red Boxing Forms while Shih Fu Liu performed the beautiful, smooth as silk 8 pieces of Brocade Qi Gong set, a form whose movements are implemented in the Tai Chi warmups taught at Body Balance. This is a form which anyone can learn and is beneficial to those looking to improve balance, breathing, circulation, relaxation, and an overall healthy lifestyle.

All in all the event raised over $1,000 for Habitat for Humanity and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Nevada County. Congratulations also to Kip of Grass Valley for winning the Grand Prize Raffle, a retreat in Hawaii!
